Mastering the 'TH' Sound: A Quick Classroom Boost!
A discussion in Teaching English in Indonesia on the SpeakWise Indonesia teacher forum.
Many Indonesian learners struggle with the English 'TH' sounds (as in 'think' and 'this') because these sounds don't exist in Bahasa Indonesia. To address this, try a simple exercise: have your students place their tongue between their teeth and blow air out softly while saying 'thank' and 'this'. Incorporate this into a fun practice session by creating minimal pairs like 'think' vs. 'sink' and have students repeat them in pairs. Practicing this will help improve their pronunciation clarity, making their speech more understandable and boosting their confidence in speaking English.
